This paper addresses a number of issues surrounding the ritual slaughter of animals for the production of Halal food.

This paper addresses a number of issues surrounding the ritual slaughter of animals for the production of Halal food. The objectives of the study were to describe; the currently available methods of stunning prior to slaughter, methods of Halal slaughter without prior stunning, the religious (Islamic) reasons for un-stunned slaughter and assess the impact of slaughter with or without stunning from a scientific animal welfare perspective. The report supports the use of pre-slaughter stunning.
