This study was undertaken to define the physiology of clinical heat stress in cattle and sheep within an animal house through monitoring changes in body temperature, feed and water intake, respiratory and heart rates, and acid-base and electrolyte balance.
This study was undertaken to define the physiology of clinical heat stress in cattle and sheep within an animal house through monitoring changes in body temperature, feed and water intake, respiratory and heart rates, and acid-base and electrolyte balance. The report details the findings of the experiments and assisted in the definition of the heat stress threshold for Bos taurus and Bos indicus heifers, Merino wethers and Awassi rams. This study was an important outcome of the ‘Shipboard Mortality Study - Phase 2’ and 'Hot Stuff' software development.
