Australian livestock export industry leaders awarded
Members of the Order of Australia
Australian livestock export industry leaders Ian McIvor and Roly Nieper have been recognised for their significant contribution to the Australian livestock industry, receiving Member of the Order of Australia awards this Australia Day.
“Both Ian and Roly have worked tirelessly to promote and support the interests of the Australian livestock export industry, contributing to the industry’s improvements and successes,” said LiveCorp CEO Cameron Hall.
“The Australian livestock export industry holds both Ian and Roly in great esteem and congratulates them on this well deserved recognition.”
Ian McIvor has played a key role in the expansion of the Australian Livestock Export industry, as both an active participant and representative. As principal of McIvor Selios, Ian helped pioneer the export of sheep to China in 1967 in partnership with Dalgety Australia, developing markets for breeder cattle in Indonesia, slaughter cattle in Japan and breeding sheep in Romania.
Ian has held many positions of significant corporate responsibility with the Australian Wool Exchange, Wool Research and Development Corporation, Trade Policy Advisory Council, Australian Livestock Export Corporation and the Australian Livestock Exporters’ Council. Ian is the current Chairman of the Australian Livestock Exporters’ Council, a position he holds for the second time, following 10 years as the Executive Director.
Ian has been recognised for service to the wool and livestock industries through contributions to the expansion of international export markets, improvements to production and marketing practice, and live animal export policy.
Current Chairman of LiveCorp, Dr Roly Nieper, has been recognised for his service to the primary industry sector through the development and implementation of programs and policies in the fields of animal health and welfare, livestock export, and infectious disease control and management.
Roly, a qualified veterinarian, was heavily involved in the Queensland Animal Quarantine area for many years, liaising closely with AQIS in Canberra to develop and implement livestock export health protocols.
Roly is the current Chairman of Animal Health Australia (AHA), and a board member of the Cooperative Research Centre for Animal Biosecurity (CRC) and the Quarantine Export Advisory Council (QEAC). The combination of the Chairman’s roles with AHA and LiveCorp as well as CRC and QEAC allows him to direct effort in disease control, management and preparedness as well as developing industry capability to ensure the protocols are consistently met through commercial trade.
One of Roly\\\\\\\'s major contributions, in his position as AHA Chairman, was being instrumental in the development of the Animal Disease Response Agreement, successfully bringing together Federal and State Government agencies, and peak industry councils.
