The Government Regulations that underpin the Livestock Export Industry are the
- Export Control Act 1982 and the Export Control Regulations 1982.
These give rise to the Export Control (Animal) Orders 2004 .
It is this Order that: - calls for the exporter to submit an Notice of Intention,
- calls for the need for an Export Permit for every consignment
- calls for the Registration of all premises involved in Export (Assembly depots)
- calls for the need to have shipments inspected by an approved veterinary officer
- Australian Meat and Livestock Industry Act 1997.
This Act gives rise to the Australian Meat and Livestock Industry (Export Licensing) Regulations 1998 and the Australian Meat and Livestock Industry Orders. The Australian Meat and Livestock Industry (Export Licensing) Regulations calls for each exporter of Livestock to be Licensed. The Australian Meat and Livestock Industry Orders control the export under specific conditions e.g. Export of Pregnant cattle or the Export to Korea where specific Government Legislation is required
- Navigation Act 1912.
This act gives rise to the Marine Orders in particular Marine Orders No. 43 which control livestock ship design and function
- State controlled Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Legislation.
While these are not specific to the Livestock Export Industry, they must be considered when planning consignments. A search of this site will lead to copies of the Acts and Regulations of the various States
