The next Stockmans course will be in November at Fremantle.

As part of a commitment to continuous improvement and animal welfare, LiveCorp established the Shipboard Program in 1998 on behalf of the export industry.   The Shipboard program has two main components:

1.  Training and accreditation of shipboard stockmen

LiveCorp has developed a training course for stockmen travelling on all cattle and sheep shipments. This course is aimed at ensuring stockmen have an understanding of animal management and welfare aboard export vessels as well as the necessary skills to monitor and report on animal and vessel performance. Following successful completion of the course, stockmen are provisionally accredited and become fully accredited after completion of two voyages where their competence is assessed.

 2.   Allocation of Stockmen to voyages

Stockmen are contracted by the exporter and provide animal husbandry and welfare support on board ship. LiveCorp can facilitate the allocation of Stockmen on board ship by supplying the Exporters with contact details of available trained stockmen. Exporters are requested to notify LiveCorp of all impending voyages in order to register their vets and stockmen for insurance. The stockman or vet reports daily on the condition of the livestock and shipboard conditions on a proforma basis during the voyage. Stockmen submit a final report following completion of the voyage, for consideration by the exporter.

How do I enroll in a stockman course?

Stockman courses are held as the demand dictates. A prerequisit of the course is animal handling experience so a brief CV with details of experience is needed. It is also advantageous to speak to a licensed exporter to establish the demand for newly trained stockpersons

Contact Doris Starr, livecorp@livecorp.com.au to be put on the waiting list and you will be invited as the course dates are fixed
